Barcelo Resort Riviera Maya Mexico Review

Barcelo Riviera Maya review... Travel Brokers, Inc

The Barceló (pronounced "bar-sa-low") Resorts in Riviera Maya were absolutely beautiful. There are 5 Barcelo resorts in the Riviera Maya side by side... the Barcelo Maya Beach, Barcelo Maya Caribe Beach, Barcelo Maya Colonial Beach, Barcelo Maya Tropical Beach and the Barcelo Maya Palace Deluxe. You could walk along the beach or sidewalks from one to another and it was not easy to tell where one resort ended and the other one started, however, the grounds and pools got nicer as your went up the scale. The higher end Barcelo resorts can use the facilities of the lower end but the reverse is not true. We would suggest staying in a higher end property because it provides more variety especially if staying 6 days or longer.

We stayed in the Barcelo Maya Palace which was the top of the line, however, we also toured the other 4 Barcelo resorts. All were very nice. The rooms were larger at the Maya Palace but even the Barcelo Beach rooms were very nice. In fact, some people prefer the lower end Barcelo Maya resorts because they are closer to the water sports area and the grounds had a more natural look.

We preferred the Barcelo Maya Palace to the Moon Palace except that the Moon Palace is a lot closer to the airport and to Cancun. It was over an hour ride to the resort from the airport.

We also visited the El Dorado Royale and the Royal Playa del Carmen. Many of the other agents liked those hotels better but I preferred the Barcelo properties. However, there are some advantages being close to Playa del Carmen... many nice shops and restaurants.

We also toured a very quaint hotel (only 10 rooms) right on 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen called Hotel Lunata. This would be for the person who prefers a more authenic Mexican atmosphere instead of a large resort.
