Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun review... Travel Brokers, Inc.
Formerly the Paradisus Riviera Cancun, in 2009 it became the Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun. The Now Sapphire which is located in Puerto Morelos, Mexico (between Cancun and the Riviera Maya) was somewhat disappointing. Not that it didn't have it's pluses. It certainly did. It is rated a 6 Golden Apple by Apple Vacations. Overall we would probably rate it more as a 5 Red Apple. The main reason is it is not maintained as well as it could be but even if it was it would still fall short of many of the other Cancun and Riviera Maya resorts. It has the potential to be a very nice resort... if the grounds were better maintained, if the windows were keep clean, if the beach was groomed, etc. Not that it was bad... just not first rate.
The check-in process could definitely be improved... after repeated promises we finally got into our room about 3:30pm. Finding a deck chair around the main pool was a real challenge. Many people "saved" their spot with towels, books, bags, etc. The adults only pool though was much better managed. The pool attendant would find you a spot and bring drinks, towels, etc.
The pluses... we found the staff to be very friendly and attentive. Unlike some all inclusive resorts the pool bars were adequately staffed so you never had to wait long for a drink. The service at the restaurants was very good. Our room was very clean and quite large. The bedding was adequate. The air conditioning could be improved, at least in our room. Our room had a hot tub out on the balcony which was really nice. Both pools had thatched palapa beds. The main pool had a lot of activity... pool games, music, etc. The adults only pool was very quiet and relaxing... great for reading and sleeping. The beach was mostly nice white sand, which you could walk for miles, but had a bit of seaweed which they raked up everyday.
We had the "Club Preferred" upgrade (which we would highly recommend) so we had a special room to check in and access to the adults only pool and a special beach area which was not really that special. Other Club Preferred benefits included access to computers with internet access, free Wi-Fi, newspaper, free mini-bar liquor, Concierge service and free access to the humidity Spa area.
The food at the breakfast and lunch buffet was pretty good. Not a huge selection but they did a good job of keeping it fresh and warm. The best meal we had there was a the French Restaurant. We would highly recommend it. We did not eat at the Tequila Grill but we heard it was also very good.
Although not our first choice if you can get a real good deal (call us) we would recommend this resort. For couples we would highly recommend the Club Preferred upgrade.
By the way... reports from our customers on the Now Jade Riviera Cancun were very good. One customer described the Now Jade as "incredible" with great food, rooms and service.
