We cruised on the Disney Wish last week for a Bahamas cruise. This was our first time on the Disney Wish, and our second time on a Disney cruise. This 4-night itinerary stopped in Nassau, Bahamas, as well as at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay.
We chose to spend 2 nights in Orlando prior to our cruise. We stayed on Disney property at Coronado Springs Resort. We had stayed here many years ago, but it has undergone many renovations since our previous stay. The grounds are beautiful. It offers many great dining options. The only downside is there are no unique transportation options other than the buses to the parks. Since we did not visit any of the theme parks this trip, it was not a problem for us.
The Disney cruise transportation from the resort was very simple. Bellhop picks up your bags the morning of your departure. You are told what time and where to meet at the resort (ours was 10:45 in one of the lounge areas). From there, everyone boards the bus. The bags are taken care of by the bellhop team. The bus ride to Port Canaveral is anywhere from 45 minutes to closer to 90 minutes depending on traffic.
We loved our time on the Disney Wish. It is a newer ship (debuting in 2022), and feels more modern. The theme is Cinderella, and has beautiful Disney art all around the ship. The main three restaurants are World of Marvel, Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure, and 1923 (themed after Walt and Roy Disney). World of Marvel and Arendelle both include performances and interactive elements, which appeared to be a hit with the kids. And 1923 offers a more quiet dining experience, more geared for the adults.
We chose to stay on the ship during the Nassau port day and experience less crowds for some of the more popular attractions on board. Zack was able to ride the water slide, the Aqua Mouse, with a shorter wait. We also took advantage of the Rainforest Room in the Senses Spa. It was less crowded, and easier to explore areas of the ship.
One of our favorite experiences on both Disney cruises has been our port at Castaway Cay. Disney’s private island is a very relaxing environment. There are a few different beaches that you can choose to spend the day. We chose to relax at Serenity Bay, which is the adults only beach. The water is crystal clear, and you can wade very far out with the water only reaching about waist-high. There are plenty of sun lounger chairs available. A BBQ buffet is provided on the island, as well as the normal soft-serve ice cream and water/soda machines.
Disembarkation was pretty simple. You need to put your bags out the night before to be taken care of by luggage services. The morning of disembarkation, you may either eat at your assigned restaurant, or grab food from the buffet. We chose the buffet, since we didn’t want to get up so early for our assigned dining time of 7:00 AM. You are encouraged to take your personal items/carry-on bags with you from your room and to your breakfast. The night before, you are given luggage tags with a Disney character. This character is how Disney announces who is allowed to disembark. Our character was called by 8:15 AM. We chose to finish breakfast, and then get off the ship. You pick up your bags in the port, go through customs, and then directly outside can board Disney transportation to the airport.
We really enjoyed our sailing. We felt that the Disney Wish was beautiful, and has added some nice elements compared to the older ship we sailed on previously. Our only complaint was that the adults-only pool was smaller than on the Disney Dream. A 4-night cruise is the perfect amount of time to unwind and still get to explore the whole ship. We can’t wait to cruise with Disney again!
